the moon

Always hanging around just begging to be shot!

Southwest Transits the Moon, April 23, 2021

Patience and good timing paid off as the Sun was beginning to set to the west and this image presented itself out my driveway to the east. Southwest Airlines Flight #200 from Baltimore-Washington International to San Antonio.

The Moon, March 4, 2021

While waiting for Jupiter and Mercury to clear the polluted (with humidity/clouds) horizon on this morning, I shot this image of the Moon. Hanging in the sky about 30 degrees above the southern horizon, it's viewing was free from the challenges on the horizon to the east. I find shooting the Moon when it is from about 1/3 to 2/3 full is the best to see the crater details.

A near miss, November 20, 2020.

Oh, so close. Shot from my driveway in Bristow, Va in the early evening.

American Airlines transit, March 7, 2020.

This is the next image following the shot on the home page that was recognized by Aviation Week and Space Technology as an Editor's Choice in the 2020 photography contest.

United Airlines transit, February 8, 2020.

Purely by "accident" while out on Rollins Ford Rd taking photos of the rising Super Moon in the early evening, noticed the airliner just before crossing in between. Hadn't even thought of trying to capture such an image before this. Now, it's kind of an obsession whenever the conditions are right.

January 1, 2020

Evening New Year's Day Moon, 2020.

Total Lunar eclipse, January 21, 2019

Shot from my driveway just after mid-night. Need another opportunity so I can try getting more of the Moon's details.

Please let others know that you found something really cool on my website.
