First of all, thank you for being here. I appreciate you visiting my website. Second, this is a work in progress. It is part blog, part historical document, part gallery of interesting images. My intention is to update this site on a more frequent basis than the old website.
My photography journey began in my early teens when I begged my parents to get me a 35mm camera, and they obliged by getting me a point and shoot for Christmas. However, what I really meant was an SLR camera that I could change lenses and have some control. With some whining and contributing to the costs, I got a Minolta XG-7 and was on my way.
It wasn't until much later in life when I met Maureen Monte and her brother at an airshow that my happy snaps turned into more. In 2003, she invited me to the Berkley Art Bash to show off some of my photos and I found out that people really liked them! I participated in that show for about 9 years straight, armed with a pair of Minolta HTSI+ cameras and focusing on black and white photography and traditional film and silver gelatin prints. I stuck with film a long, long time, resisting, but the ever increasingly impracticality of it--finding someone to develop film and traditional printers going out of business--resulted in my last roll of film being shot in July 2018.
Since then I've been shooting with a Sony A77ii, enjoying it, loving the instant knowledge that you captured what you intended, or need to make and able to make instant adjustments, but frustrated by the amount of time I need to spend behind the computer as opposed to being "out there" taking the photos. Although I do enjoy making those 1s and 0s come to life, so to speak, there is nothing like being out there in the quiet dark just watching the sky.
Last thing..... My goal is to capture images of what is actually there--as if you were there too. Yes, I will composite images (for example, the International Space Station transiting across the sky or the Moon) and make adjustments for quality, but I don't intend on ever posting on this website, without making it perfectly clear, something that is not there.
In any case, I hope you enjoy the results! Feel free to send me your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks again for being here!
